The Charity Cycling Challenge began in 2008 as a small, in-house spin-a-thon with about 30 participants. It was formed by a group of 3 gym members who, for their own reasons, wanted to give back and help others in need. That year, we raised approximately $5,400 for a dozen different organizations. Now, our operating committee consists of over 20 volunteers with very different backgrounds, different skill sets and talents, as well as different age groups. However, we all share one common goal – to help those in need. Because we produce such a fun and entertaining event, the popularity mushroomed, and last year, our eighth annual Challenge, we had 385 participants, over 60 sponsors, and raised over $61,000 in one day for nearly 100 local and national charities and organizations. Since 2008, we’ve helped over 120 charities raise a combined total of over $280,000. These have been organizations at both the national and local level.
The Charity Cycling Challenge, Inc. is a non-stock, not for profit corporation, which allows us to operate as our own entity. In addition, the CCC has been granted 501c3 status as a public charity by the I.R.S. Any and all donations and contributions to the CCC are tax deductible. The Challenge is planned, managed, and coordinated by a group of volunteers.
The 9th annual Charity Cycling Challenge is an indoor cycling event that will allow participants to form teams that will ride and raise money for their favorite charitable organization. This is not simply a “spinning class”, but each hour features its own unique theme, to make the event fun and enjoyable for the diverse group of riders that we anticipate. Riding times are in 1 hour blocks, and each hour has its own video production. Our event sponsors allow us the opportunity to provide event t-shirts, towels, raffle prizes, give-a-ways, and to provide food and refreshments during the event.
In addition to our main event, the Challenge, over the past 6 years we have added three additional fundraising events. The first was our Bowl A Rama, held annually at Spare Time Bowling in Bristol. This year’s event, our 6th, was held on Sunday, November 22 from 2-4pm. The Bowl A Rama continues to grow, and is a fun time for all ages. Next, we added Raise Your Glass, a wine, and much more, tasting event, which has been held at various locations, currently at Hawks Landing Country Club. Just as with the Challenge, we continue to grow and out-grow the capacity of our venues. Finally, three years ago we introduced Swing Fore Special Olympics Golf Tournament. This event is held at Southington Country Club, and benefits Special Olympics CT. We have raised over $31,000 for SOCT in this short period of time, with each year better than the last.
The CCC is always looking for new sponsors, as well as participants in any of our events. You can reach us via e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling 860-261-7326. We look forward to hearing from you!
